HealOzone®

We are now delighted to be able to introduce a new treatment at my practice for pain-free, non-invasive dentistry using ozone, ozone is a form of oxygen.

Over the past 40 years it has been used as an oxidizing agent widely used for purifying water supplies. Ozone is a natural biocide, which effectively kills bacteria, viruses and fungi within seconds.

The HealOzone technology utilises the direct application of ozone to the decayed tooth surface in a controlled manner. It is administered by a negative pressure when a vacum is created. Once the vacum is broken the ozone generation stops and any residual ozone is sucked back into the unit and coverted back to O2. This is capable of potentially reversing dental decay. Ozone kills bacteria, arresting the further development of caries. De-mineralisation replaced by re-mineralisation irrespective of age.

Once these bacteria have been elimintated from the area, a special mineral is put on the area of decay, this encourages the re-mineralisation process. We also recommend a toothpaste and mouth rinse (children over 9) to encourage the tooth continuing to healing. Regular use of the home kit encourages the success of your ozone treatment.

DIAGNOdent

HealOzone is used in conjunction with DIAGNOdent.

Diagnodent is a small laser that we can use to examine the surface of your teeth to identify caries, eliminating the need for Xrays.

The Diagnodent detects changes in the mineral and crystal compositon of the dentine which affects the density of the tooth surface. This gives us an idea of whether and how much decay is present, enabling us to determine whether we should observe, use preventative measures od preparation fo the tooth.

Initial lesions in the enamel show values of between 5 and 25: values beyond that indicate early dentine decay. Values in excess of 35 show advanced dentine decay.

Early detection is of paramount importance especially in children- and we believe that in conjunction with a high standard of oral hygiene and a controlled diet, the Diagnodent and HealOzone will revolutionise modern dentistry putting an end to "drilling & filling".
